Smart Strips are standard surge protectors that go above and beyond protecting your electronics - by also cutting standby energy. Standby energy, also known as vampire power or phantom power, is the electricity used when your electronics are in "sleep" or "off" mode. Some electronics don't have a specific standby setting, but continue to draw power when in "off" mode. A good indicator of this is if they have a clock display, or a status light that stays on at all times.
Smart Strips are designed for areas in your home or office that have multiple peripheral electronics plugged in where a main electronic device is used, such as: home entertainment centers, computer or home office areas, stereo systems, etc. When plugged into a Smart Strip, you can turn off your main electronic device and automatically cut the power to your peripheral devices on the strip, without having to do anything extra. Save time, money, and energy with the convenience of a Smart Strip!
By plugging the appropriate devices into the designated outlets on the Smart Strip, you can significantly reduce the wasted energy those items would typically use if plugged into a regular power strip - even if you had turned the items off. See below for more details!

What does the Smart Strip do?T he Smart Strip has specified outlets for your electronics and their peripherals. The main electronic will go into the CONTROL outlet, and the peripherals will go into the SWITCHED outlets. When you turn your computer or television off (or whatever is in the CONTROL outlet) power will immediately be cut to the SWITCHED outlets. This saves electricity, and money. Anything that you want to stay on when the computer goes off can go in the ALWAYS ON outlets - i.e: phones, fax machines, DVR etc.
When I turn my control electronic back on, does everything else turn back on too? Whatever is in the SWITCHED outlets will return to the state it was when its power was cut when you turn what is in the CONTROL outlet back on.
